CARIOQA-PMP partners will lead a talk around “Scenario Building for Earth Observation Space Missions Featuring Quantum Sensors” at the DPG SAMOP (Spring Meeting of the Atomic, Molecular, Quantum Optics and Photonics Section), conference in Freiburg next 14 March. The presentation will showcase simulation work from the CARIOQA-PMP project.
Atom interferometer configurations, known for their sensitivity to accelerations and rotations, offer a versatile approach for both fundamental physics research and Earth observation. With climate change impacting Earth’s gravity field through phenomena like sea-level rise, there is growing significance in utilizing these sensors. To advance quantum sensor technology in space, the European Commission plans to launch the CARIOQA-PMP quantum pathfinder mission. This mission aims to increase the maturity of quantum sensors and will be followed by a full-fledged quantum gravimetry mission. A simulation tool, developed in collaboration with the geodesy community, will analyze mission scenarios, integrating classical satellite simulations, quantum measurements, and gravity field recovery from interferometer signals.
